People want their information fast. 8-seconds-fast. It’s been proven that the human attention span is shorter than that of a goldfish! So as an advertiser, how do you capture their attention?

Answer: Keep your content short, punchy and useful with these six strategies:

1. Clarity is King

They say content is king but clarity is equally important. Your main goal should be creating content that is useful and interesting to the viewer without making them work too hard to get it. Stop the scroll by demanding your customer’s attention.

2. Know your platform

Each digital platform has its own set of rules. If you don’t stay up to date with these ever-changing platforms, your campaigns will suffer. Aside from the rules, you also need to be aware that what content that works for one platform doesn’t necessarily work for another. Making sure your formatting is correct, avoiding duplicate content, and using high quality, legally owned images are some of the best practices to abide by.

3. Don’t push video content in places where it’s not needed

While video content is great for some platforms, it’s important to use it appropriately. For example, videos that autoplay on your website’s homepage can cause the page to load slower than normal, which can cause potential customers to bounce due to their “need-it-now” mentality. Obviously, this depends on the length of the video. It’s always a good idea to keep video content short and sweet unless you’re showing it to your customers who are further down the sales funnel.

4. Split up your content and get more out of it

Remember - short attention spans. Make your content short and to the point. Doing this accomplishes several things:

It gives you more SEO real estate and allows you to segment your audience based on interests.

It makes your content easy to follow and more user-friendly.

It also helps to maximize your content by spreading it out over a longer period of time, ultimately giving you more posts.

5. Make it personal

Users see thousands of ads in a single day. Ads are everywhere! They follow you on websites, pop up on your phone, and even show up at the top of your email inbox, so in order to truly stand out among the crowd, you need to have personalized content. The platforms available today allow for granular targeting so that your ads show to relevant audiences. Always keeping the end user in mind will help you make effective ads that they will want to engage with.

6. Use visual aids and interactive elements wherever possible

Ads that offer interactive quizzes or allow a user to virtually try on a product before buying can be very powerful. If a user can go through a short quiz to find out which product would be the best fit for them, their user experience will be one they remember, in a good way. Companies like Eyeconic, are now offering a way to digitally try on a pair of glasses so you can see what they look like before purchasing. These types of ads can stand out from the crowd and be the difference between attracting new customers or losing them to another brand.

Utilizing these helpful tips can ensure that your marketing campaigns are successful and your users are engaging. Remember to keep it short and sweet. People want their information fast!
